Squad Cozy Lantern is an independent educational website for adults considering a first musical instrument. Our guides begin with the chair, the room, the neighbours and the energy left at the end of a normal day.
We do not treat a prestigious brand, a large instrument collection or an ambitious practice schedule as a prerequisite. We explain what different choices ask of you so you can make a decision with fewer surprises.
What our comparisons mean
Our panels compare practical characteristics, not scores. “Portable” does not mean effortless to carry. “Headphone-compatible” does not mean physically silent. “Beginner-friendly” does not mean free of difficult coordination or upkeep.
Instrument families also contain substantial variation. A specific model's manual, a qualified technician's assessment and a teacher's observation should take priority over a broad category description when making an individual decision.

This site is not an instrument retailer, teaching institution or repair service. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the manufacturers, musicians, authors or teaching approaches named in the guides. The pages do not contain affiliate purchase links.
We do not claim to have personally tested every instrument category or model. General guidance cannot establish whether an individual instrument is safe, well maintained or physically suitable for you. Nor can it replace medical or hearing advice.
